For the seventh year, Camp Calumet has put together a team of runners who will participate in the annual Reach the Beach relay, set to take place September 15-17, 2016 in New Hampshire. The 200-mile relay begins in the White Mountains and finishes at Hampton Beach State Park. It will take 48 runners, 8 drivers, 4 New Hampshire congregations, legions of volunteers, a couple of handfuls of support staff, countless followers on Facebook, and one thousand donors.

They’re all running/working/sCalumet Reach the Beachupporting for one goal: To raise money for Calumet’s Annual Fund, which keeps the costs low for children who go to Calumet’s Resident Camp. Calumet expects to award some $70,000 this year in campership grants to families who need them, and that money also comes out of the Annual Fund.

You can help too! SHELC will be sponsoring Pastor Jeff Stalley, who will run in the race, and a free-will offering will be collected at our Rally Day Coffee Hour September 11, for Jeff’s efforts. Sam Chang, our Thrivent Representative, has offered matching funds, so please consider supporting the children of Calumet in this way.

Checks can be made out to SHELC with Calumet Reach the Beach in the memo line.

Order forms are available in pew racks and can be returned with checks made payable to SHELC (memo- hymnals) or cash. These forms also allow you to order personal hymnals for home and book plates in memory/honor of a loved one to the glory of God. Returned forms can be placed in the Offering Box or sent to the Church Office. Thank you for enhancing our worship opportunities as we endeavor to sing together with the ELCA.

If you missed the last train (in June for the Shepherd Family) here’s a chance to catch the next train.

What is a Meal Train?

For those who need a refresher…..There are times in our lives when friends and family ask, “What can I do to help out?” The answer is usually to help them with a meal. When many friends give a meal, this is a Meal Train. is a free meal calendar tool that makes planning meals among a wide group easy and less stressful.

Both Randy and Lucy are healing from ailments and could use our help. Please consider bringing the Bremers a meal.

Check out the calendar and notice the green days – they are the open slots that still need to be filled!

Free-Will Offering on May 29 and June 5

A challenge has been set for our Synod Assembly to gather funds for the ELCA’s World Hunger Appeal. Each congregation in the Synod is being asked to gather funds for a donation. Matching funds in the amount of $15,000 will enable the synod to double its contribution to the cause.

Shepherd of the Hills will donate the first $500 from the SHELC Benevolence funds. Individual donations collected as a free-will offering over two Sundays (May 29 and June 5) will add to our church total. Please make checks payable to SHELC with the words “World Hunger” in the memo.

Thank you for your generosity and care!
