As part of Simsbury Celebrates, Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church sponsors Mrs. Clausimsburycelebrates_mrmrsclauss’ Kitchen. When the local children visit Mrs. Claus, not only do they write down their prayer concerns, but they also decorate sugar cookies that they can take home and eat. Mrs. Claus can’t do all this baking by herself, so she’s looking for some elves to help. Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen needs 75 dozen unadorned sugar cookies! Please wrap cookies, identify the quantity, and place them in the church freezer.

Visit Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen

Simsbury Celebrates is a town wide event which takes place along Simsbury’s picturesque main strip, Hopmeadow Street. Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen will be located in Palmer Hall at the First Church of Christ (lower level.) The event is scheduled for Saturday, November 26 (the Saturday after Thanksgiving) beginning at 4:00 p.m. and lasting until 6:30 p.m.  This year will be the 15 year anniversary of this event. Don’t miss it!

On Reformation Sunday, we will be blending traditional with contemporary reforms in our worship at 10:00 a.m. We will also formally acknowledge members who have joined our church in recent years and have been part of its re-forming.

To celebrate the Reformation further, a showing of the movie Luther will be shown after the worship service from 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. A spaghetti lunch (a fun acknowledgement of the Diet of Worms) will be served with an opportunity for seconds and dessert during the movie break.

Come enjoy food, fellowship and learn (or refresh your memory) about how Martin Luther’s defiant actions changed the world.

It’s time to make reservations for the Men’s and Women’s Weekends at Camp Calumet

This fall, Bishop Jim will be a guest speaker at the Men’s Weekend, Screen Shot 2016-03-19 at 9.55.52 PMwhile former bishop, Margaret Payne, will be the chaplain for the Women’s Weekend. Both special guests will draw many people to these events, so consider making reservations as soon as possible. If you’ve never been to one of these weekends, ask Pastor Chris, Dave, or anyone who has attended for details (and pictures).

Men’s Weekend – OCTOBER 21 – 23, 2016 — “Wired Differently”

From Bishop Hazelwood: “Why do most spiritual disciplines not work for most men?  Because we are wired differently.  We tend to be task-oriented, purpose-driven, and seek measurable outcomes.  This weekend seeks to look at three areas where men can practice a male spirituality, centered around food, sex and sports.  Yes, you read it right.  We’ll discuss a male spirituality of the body, and you’ll depart with some new insights.”

Women’s Weekend – NOVEMBER 18 – 20, 2016 – “Cup of Life”

Awesome singing and music; inspirational devotions; a Bible study offered by the chaplain; exciting Sunday morning worship; free time in the afternoon for shopping, hiking, craft tours, Zumba, massage, relaxing; great food; fellowship; and nighttime entertainment with Judith Black, one of the nation’s foremost storytellers.

Contact Alice for reservation (603) 539-3223 ext. 220 or ALICE@CALUMET.ORG.
