During the month of October, the Greater Hartford Conference of the New England Synod ELCA has various opportunities to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) - one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor.

Together we Go to Love and Serve where God leads Us

A Mosaic locations in West Hartford is in need of some fresh paint and some yard work. Mosaic's mission is "Embracing God's call to serve in the world, Mosaic advocates for people with intellectual disabilities and provides opportunities for them to enjoy a full life."mosaic-logo The project will take place on Saturday, October 15, 2016  from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Sign-up for the day or choose the morning or afternoon.

On October 21 & 22, Thrivent Financial of South Windsor is sponsoring two Habitat for Humanities "Brush of Kindness" projects. Selected residences in Bloomfield will receive an outdoor facelift including yard work and small repairs or paint jobs.habitat-for-humanity

Duration for each day may vary depending on the tasks. Work will start at 9:30 am and go into the early afternoon. Sign-up for one day or be a real

The Tolland County Agricultural Center is located at 24 Hyde Ave, Vernon, CT.

Volunteer on Saturday, October 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A great opportunity for high school students!

April 11, 2016 - Shepherd of the Hills Evangelical Church of Simsbury (SHELC) will be holding its first annual 5K run/walk on Saturday, May 14. The event will raise money for the SHELC Youth Program which welcomes members of the community to participate. The Race begins at 9:00 AM and starts at SHELC located at 7 Wescott Road in Simsbury.

Registration is currently open for the 5k run and 1.25-mile walk.

SHELC hopes to promote health and wellness within the community during this outreach event. A personal trainer logo_ccecb522-5722-42e1-adae-86a399eac173_largefrom Healthtrax Fitness & Wellness will lead the pre-race stretching and warm ups. The course route starts at SHELC, continues to the scenic Rails to Trails path, loops around and ends back at SHELC.

Another goal of the event is to raise awareness for suicide prevention and to remember friends who were lost too soon to suicide. SHELC will display a remembrance banner available for anyone to sign to remember a lost friend. Jordan Porco FoundationAt the conclusion of the race, SHELC will make a financial donation to the Jordan Porco Foundation, a Hartford based non-profit organization committed to preventing suicide in high school and college-aged students through awareness, education and innovative programming.

The Gold Sponsor, Healthtrax Fitness & Wellness of Avon, will provide two lucky participants with a complimentary 1-month membership. Anyone who completes the 5k run or 1.25 walk will be eligible, so you don't have to win - you just have to finish!
